Cutting food waste

It’s estimated that the UK wastes seven million tonnes of food every year. Around Christmas alone, some 270,000 tonnes of food is wasted. Counteract this problem by only buying and preparing the food that you need. There is a tendency around Christmas for consumers to “over-order” with the logic that it’s better to have too much than not enough. Plan you meals over the festive season to ensure that food doesn’t end up in the bin.

Involved in your festive food planning should be left-over food recipes. To ensure those sprouts don’t slowly grow mouldy in the back of the fridge over time, have some sprout-related recipes in mind to ensure your leftovers are put to good use. The BBC’s Good food website has some great ideas!
