B&Q has just announced that its flowering plants will be free of neonicotinoid pesticides from next year.
This is fantastic news for our bees and gardeners.
We need other retailers to follow suit, investigate their supply chains and commit to banning bee-harming pesticides from their plants.
Like many gardeners I want my garden to be bee-friendly. But if the plants I buy at garden centres contain neonicotinoids (neonics), they may not be that friendly to bees after all.
Three key neonics have been found to pose a ‘high acute risk’ to honeybees and there’s growing evidence they could be harming other precious pollinators too.
We need to make garden centres follow in the footsteps of B&Q and do all they can to help protect our little friends.
Ask garden centres to ditch bee-harming pesticides
It’s not fair on the bees if gardeners are unknowingly buying plants that contain harmful pesticides. Together we can raise the alarm and ask retailers to make sure this stops.
All the best,
Emi Murphy and the bees team
