The Department for Transport has slammed the brakes on their promise to electrify the UK’s railways, announcing plans to scrap work across the north, the midlands and south Wales.
This means more polluting diesel trains for years to come, not the solar and wind powered railways we need.
Electric trains are better for the climate, better for our health and better for passengers.
The cleaner, greener, faster travel offered by electric trains should be accessible to people across the country, not just those in London and south east England. We’ve teamed up with the Campaign for Better Transport to ask Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling to think again.
