Energy price cap could double by January – Friends of the Earth reaction

news release

• Make energy efficiency a top priority, PM candidates urged

Responding to news that the energy price cap could double by January, Friends of the Earth’s head of policy, Mike Childs, said:

“It’s astonishing that the government continues to dither and delay while the energy crisis turns into a full-blown energy price emergency.

“Ministers should be helping households to cut energy use and save money by rolling out a street-by-street home insulation programme targeting the neighbourhoods most in need.

“We should also be fast tracking the building of new onshore wind turbines – the cheapest source of energy and the fastest to build.  “Instead, months of vital action to bring down energy bills have been recklessly lost.

“The very least the two remaining candidates for Prime Minister can do is promise to make energy efficiency the UK’s number one infrastructure priority.”
