EcoHome Lab: Fieldtrip special!
This month is an Eco-home Lab special! We’re on a field trip to New Mills, Derbyshire, to visit regular Eco-home Lab-er Mike’s home featuring two heat pumps, 13 Raspberry Pi’s (or more), underfloor heating in the house and in the green-house, etc, etc, etc. The house is a B&B and features a brewery, what’s not to like!
The plan is:
- Meet at Piccadilly station at 17:00
- Take the train at 17:17 to New Mill Central (Northern line)
- Arrive to New Mill Central at 17:45 and a 30 min jolly walk to Mike’s place
- If it’s more convenient for you to take another route, let us know so we ensure we all get there one way or another
For the return there are several options:
- Train from New Mills Newtown at 20:52 (arrives at Piccadilly at 21:30)
- Train from New Mills Central at 21:30 (arrives at Piccadilly at 22:05)
- Train from New Mills Newtown at 21:50 (arrives at Piccadilly at 22:31)

Mike proposes the following agenda:
- The use of Raspberry Pis for control including
- Greenhouse heat storage
- Power monitoring
- Heatpump control
- Heating and lighting
- Beer fermentation control
- The use of Node-red for the above
- Joining it all together with MQTT
- 45 mins showing the Node-red and MQTT
- Then sampling of beer
