GMCC Workshop: Beelines ABC – the announcement, buzz and consultation

This month’s workshop will consider Beelines, the Greater Manchester cycling and walking infrastructure proposal.

We’ll briefly describe the Beelines announcement and our ‘Buzz’ campaign, then we will explore how we got here, the current state of the proposed network, and how we can contribute during the feedback and consultation phase to get the best outcome.

Background info:

  • Chris Boardman, Greater Manchester cycling and walking commissioner, published his “Made To Move” report which set out a vision and 15 steps to achieve it.
  • GMCA have allocated £160 million to a “Challenge Fund” to be used for delivery of high quality walking and cycling schemes.
  • Network planning sessions have been held with each of GM’s 10 Local Authorities
  • Beelines proposals are published at tfgm.com/made-to-move setting out “a fully joined up cycling and walking network; the most comprehensive in Britain covering 1,000 miles.”
  • A network map is published at mappinggm.org.uk/beelines and a 12-week consultation begins.
