Mass Demo – Carnival for a Frack Free Future! (Preston New Road)

Don your glitter and join youth movements, families, activists and campaigners to come and resist Cuadrilla’s attempts to frack in Lancashire and celebrate the last Friday of the month with a carnival!

Mass Demo - Carnival for a Frack Free Future!

This July, Reclaim the Power are heading to Blackpool to support the amazing local resistance to fracking. As part of a jam-packed month of action, every Friday we’ll be hosting a family-friendly mass demo at the roadside of the site to show solidarity with the local communities and a broad and national opposition to fracking. On Friday 28th, we’ll be thinking about how we can create a better world for future generations.
There’ll be performers, speakers, face-painting and workshops to enjoy, and we encourage you to wear your best carnival-themed outfits, the brighter and more eye-catching the better!

*** If 100 people come to the site, Cuadrilla have to stop work ***

ON THE DAY
We will walk down from Maple Farm at 8am, although if you arrive later you can join us at the gate at any point.
There will be an evening meal at Maple Farm at 6pm.

HOW LONG SHALL I STAY?

If you’re travelling from further away for the Friday mass demos, we encourage you to arrive on the Thursday night if you can, although you can turn up at any point on Friday and be able to get involved. We can provide food and camping spaces.

We’d love for you to stay for as long as you can over the month! The Mass Demos are a great family friendly introduction, and then you’re welcome to stay for workshops, talks, events and trainings over the weekend to prepare you for ** ACTIONS ON MONDAY**.

Full programme for the weekend and whole month can be found at: https://reclaimthepower.org.uk/fracking/

Camping places are available at the ‘Camp of New Hope’ Community Camp next to the site. There is also accessible accommodation available for those who require it.

BACKGROUND
In October 2016, the national government stamped on local democracy and years of local resistance by overturning Lancashire County Councils decision to prevent fracking, and granting rouge company Cuadrilla permits to build the first commercial fracking site in the UK, at Preston New Road just outside Blackpool.

Since works began on the fracking pad in January, local people and protectors have been at the site every day protesting and blockading.

This July, Reclaim the Power are organising a ‘Rolling Resistance’, mobilising and supporting people from around the country to come and support this incredible local struggle.

As the first commercial fracking site in the UK, and with the Tory manifesto committed to erase any local say in fracking applications and pave the way for new fracking, it’s really important that this first attempt doesn’t go through without a fight. Already there are major delays to the works and supply chain companies pulling out.
