New Popularism – threat or opportunity? Learning to talk with people we disagree with…

The last year has seen seismic political shocks in the form of the Brexit vote and Trump’s election. But it has highlighted the vast range of opinions and view points within our society.

In the context of climate change, what does the rise in popularism mean for people committed to taking effective collective action to re-shape our society?

We will be joined by George Marshall (COIN), Sheila Menon (tbc) (Reclaim the Power) and Kooj Chuhan (Metaceptive and Virtual Migrants) to discuss questions such as:

  • Could the new, right wing popularism fundamentally threaten a just transition to a new, low carbon society?
  • Is it an opportunity to form common cause with other, disenfranchised elements of society?
  • How can we relate with people who hold starkly divergent views from ourselves?

This event is part of Energise Festival, which is part of Carbon Co-op’s Energise weekender featuring Energise open homes and more!
