Plug in the Midland Mainline (Leicester Friends of the Earth)

The Government has done yet another u-turn and decided they are not going to electrify the Midland Mainline north of Kettering after all. From an air pollution point of view, this is disastrous. The railway line goes through the middle of cities that have an air pollution problem and they will all struggle to resolve that if the line isn’t electrified.

On Saturday 9th September, campaigners will take a big green plug on the train in a relay from London to Sheffield to show the government that we want them to plug in the Midland Mainline. Here’s our timetable:

London to Bedford 10:29 – 11:04
Bedford to Kettering 11:37 – 11:59
Kettering to Market Harborough 12:23 – 12:33
Market Haborough to Leicester 13:10 – 13:24
Leicester to Derby 14:01 – 14:23
Derby to Chesterfield 15:05 – 15:27
Chesterfield to Sheffield 16:03 – 16:18

Come and meet the green plug at your local station or even join it on the train!

Leicester Friends of the Earth campaigned for electrification when they ‘paused’ the project in 2015. We collected signatures and nd held weekly stalls outside the railway station in Leicester. We encourage everyone to sign the new 10:10 petition
