Stockport – BHF Training Ride – 40 Miler (Sky Ride Local)

  • Your bike: Do you have a road bike?
  • Your kit: Do you have a basic repair kit and spare inner tube to fix any punctures or carry out minor repairs if needed?
  • Your fitness: Are you comfortable cycling 30 miles+ at an average speed of 13-15mph?

If the answer to ALL of these is YES, then this ride should be perfect for you!

If not, why not think about trying some of our ‘Steady’ or shorter ‘Challenging’ rides first so you can build your confidence and fitness?

Thank you for joining us at one of our fantastic British Heart Foundation (BHF) Bike Rides. We’re thrilled that you’ve joined the team raising vital funds to help us in the fight against heart disease. If you want to get the most out of your big day, the hard work needs to start way before you cross the start line. That’s why we’re thrilled to have teamed up with British Cycling to offer you this training ride. Take a wonderful meander through the quiet country lanes of Cheshire. The route wanders through quaint villages, tree-lined roads and the gorgeous vista that are the plains of Cheshire. Starting at Bramhall Leisure Centre and passing the village centre you are soon into the country lanes, soon finding the quietest roads towards Over Alderley. From there the route follows the National Cycling Route 70 to Marton, home of a 1200 year old Oak tree, before reaching a potential stopping point, Jodrell Bank café.

The Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester is home to the Lovell Telescope, the third largest steerable radio telescope in the world. After a refreshment stop the ride continues North West, passing by open farmlands and the quaint village of Marthall before winding our way to affluent Alderley Edge. The National trust owned Alderley Edge is named after the high ground separating Cheshire and Derbyshire. From Alderley Edge you cycle east back towards Mottram St Andrews, re-joining the route back via Woodford and the site of the Woodford Aerodrome which was the original home of the Vulcan Bomber.

Places are limited so please book online.
