Tameside – Medlock Valley Discovery Ride – 14 miler (Sky Ride Local)

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

This ride does exactly what is says, discovery of the Medlock Valley as we dip into the valley at Park Bridge, Daisy Nook and Clayton Vale. Starting at the Heritage Centre in Park Bridge which was an early industrial settlement based on an iron rolling mill, the route makes it way to Daisy Nook, a popular destination in the past for Victorian afternoons out where families would picnic by the river, walk by the canal and along Crime Lake and visit one of the refreshment facilities and that is still the case today. You then make your way to Clayton Vale, once a land fill site but over three decades nature has taken over and made the area into a beautiful haven for wildlife. The area became a designated Local Nature Reserve in July 2006. From here you can head back giving you another chance to ride through Daisy Nook and take in the glorious views of Medlock Valley.

Additional Information: Helmets must be worn by all under 18’s regardless of ride level.
Please bring equipment with you to repair punctures, Ride Leaders are there to help but are not responsible for your bike. All rides leave at the time stated you must arrive early Ride Leaders will not wait.
