Anniversary Report - behaviour of pedestrians and cyclists

We received 7 comments about the behaviour of pedestrians and other cyclists, mainly about problems with pedestrians not looking before stepping into roads and cycle lanes.

  • Mosley Street - Cycle path in front of Central Library (Both ways) Pedestrians come from all directions, dismounting buses and trams and they are squeezed into a small space between a gated playground with high walls (always locked I think!) and a sunken garden. Unfortunately the cycle path snakes its way around the playground into the same small space. Pedestrians do step into the cycle lane without looking. However experienced cyclists expect this to happen. But because of the high walls of the playground, cyclists can't see the pedestrians in the cycle lane, and vice versa. Remove the playground! install a convex mirror?

  • Pedestrians looking both ways when they cross

  • Pedestrians actually looking where they are going and not just stepping out into the road in front of your bike

  • Pedestrians looking where they were going!

  • More considerate cyclists (i.e. not jumping lights or riding on pavements).
