Anniversary Report - Traffic levels

We received 35 comments about traffic levels. The vast majority of these simply said that the cycling experience would be improved if there was a reduction in the level of traffic, or that more people would switch to cycling if there was less traffic. There were suggestions to reduce the number of buses in Rusholme, reduce the speed limit along problem routes.

  • A bit less traffic at Kingsway

  • less traffic

  • less traffic / wider roads or cycle lanes

  • Wilmslow Road - Too many buses. Traffic tends to crawl along Palatine Road, Northenden in the morning. Rusholme can be a nightmare in the evening.

  • A new (and enforced!!!) 30 mph speed limit on Kingsway

  • Conversion of a series of side streets beyond Claremont road to one way access only (i.e. similar to the Santiago Street arrangement before it was changed back to full car access

  • less traffic

  • less cars, or more considerate drivers

  • Corner of Moss Lane East and Chichester Rd. is grim and busy, as is whole region near Loreto

  • Merging from the third lane of the A56 - would never recommend it to anybody (but do it every day)

  • Less traffic.

  • Less traffic

  • Less traffics, cycle lane all the way down Kings Road and on Booth Street West and East.

  • Reduction of vehicle speed on King Street West in Stockport.

  • Less traffic

  • Less Cars! Lower speed limit

  • I cant afford a decent bike. Not a competent rider so the traffic really worries me, its very dangerous along oxford road. A safer route is well out of the way

  • I want to cycle to work, but do not want to take my life in my hands by using the busy roads. Can someone show me a direct safe route using cycle paths and safe quiet sreets etc. I know there is a cycle path along part of the A580 to start off, but what then?

  • It's not really your problem but the last stretch of A34 out of Alderley Edge has unlit winding country roads with bulk traffic going in excess of 40 mph, meaning I only feel safe cycling in Summer when I can be seen.

  • Have just bought a bike with the intention of cycling to work but am scared by the high levels of traffic and the narrowness of the cycle lanes. Am still a bit wobbly as not ridden a bike for years and desperately lacking in confidence.
