if you are turning right from trafford road onto chester road (this might also be worth it if you are going straight on), an alternative is to cut through salford quays, over the lowry bridge, left down the ship canal embankment, right then a quick left onto trafford wharf road, then right onto matt busby way, past utd, then turn right onto A56 by the trafford pub. it is slightly longer, but is largely traffic free (apart from match days!) and also has the advantage of missing out all the lights on trafford road.
