Ticketing Urban 4x4s
| When? | Saturday 18th December 2004 |
| Where? | Manchester City Centre |
| Why? | To educate people about the environmental and social damage caused by the increasing numbers of urban 4x4s. |
The Alliance Against Urban 4x4s, an alliance of environmental, consumer and road safety groups and concerned individuals, took to the streets of Manchester on Saturday 18th December to spread the message that 4x4s are not clean, not safe and not cool.

The campaigners assembled at the Friends Meeting House at 10am for a press call with Granada TV and the Manchester Evening News. They then collected bundles of mock parking tickets and set out on an urban safari, issuing hundreds of 4x4s across the city centre with tickets branding them a "poor vehicle choice".

Some drivers still insisted on their right to drive their 4x4s even when presented with the facts that they pollute the environment and endanger pedestrians, cyclists and other road users more than regular cars. However, the majority of the people we spoke to supported the alliance's call for higher road taxes for these dirty and dangerous vehicles.

And Santa was definitely on our side...!
