Manchester City Council - An A to Z of recycling, with advice on how and where to recycle and dispose of almost anything you can think of!

Manchester Freecycle Network - If you're about to throw something away, why not give it away instead? This website allows you to post details of the item and see if anyone else can make use of it.

Copperdale Trust - A trust that will come and collect anything you don't want (from sofas to clothes) and give it away to people who need it. They're all self funded volunteers (they even pay for van maintenance and petrol themselves) and don't have a website as they can't afford one but their phone number is:

EMERGE Recycling - Community recycling organisation based in Manchester, providing recycling services for businesses.

Fairfield Materials Management - A social enterprise based on the New Smithfield market site in East Manchester, Fairfield has established the UK’s first sustainable waste management system to operate on a wholesale market, diverting 6,500 tonnes of organic market waste material away from landfill by converting it into sustainable, quality compost.

CHAIN - The Cheshire Anti-Incinerator Network, campaigning against incinerators in Cheshire.

RAIN - Residents Against Incineration, fighting against a huge new incinerator at Ince Marshes in Cheshire.

Alupro - The UK Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation is responsible for encouraging and developing recycling collection initiatives, for consumer education, and for representing the aluminium packaging industry to government.

Oxfam - Donate your old mobile phone to Oxfam, they will recycle it and use the money raised to support their work with people all over the world.

ActionAid - Mobile phone, toner & inkjet cartridge collection scheme, all profits go to the charity.
