Ask your MP to hold the Government to account on fracking

take action

Last year, Lancashire won an amazing victory when, after months of community campaigning, local councilors voted to reject fracking. Twice.  This victory is now at risk. But you can help.

Fracking company Cuadrilla has appealed and Greg Clark, Secretary of State for Communities, could now force fracking on Lancashire.

We said no to fracking - dont silence us

Over 186,000 people signed a petition to Greg Clark and David Cameron, asking them to respect local democracy and respect Lancashire’s decision.

And we won a huge victory when we successfully asked MPs to stop the Government introducing legislation that would have removed your say from local fracking decisions.

But Greg Clark MP will soon be making the final decision on Lancashire – and if this decision is overturned from Westminster, it would send a worrying signal for future fracking applications.

We need MPs from all parties to tell Greg Clark that their constituents don’t want fracking forced on Lancashire, or anywhere.

Please ask your MP to put pressure on Greg Clark

Draft text of email is below:

I am writing to you to express my serious concern that the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Greg Clark MP, could soon overturn Lancashire Council’s locally made decision to reject fracking. Such a decision would set a deeply worrying signal for future fracking decisions.

As your constituent, I am asking you to request a meeting with the Secretary of State, to ask that he stands by his commitment to localism, by upholding Lancashire Council’s decision, and to write to him to setting out my concerns.

The planning system ensures that there is local democratic accountability for decisions on development.  Local councillors in Lancashire have voted to refuse fracking in their area on planning grounds.

At the recent public inquiry for the appeals, the Inspector heard evidence showing that the applications had an adverse impact on climate change, waste, public health, transport, noise and visual impact. Over 11,000 objections were received and over a hundred people spoke at the inquiry.

Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace recently submitted a petition signed by over 186,000 people asking the Secretary of State to respect the local decision in Lancashire and to continue to refuse the fracking applications.

At a recent Local Government Association conference, Greg Clark MP said: “powers annexed by central government over decades should be returned to local government”.

Please request a meeting with the Secretary of State and ask him to stand by this commitment to localism, by not forcing these contentious and unwanted fracking developments on Lancashire – or any other community.
