On Friday 25th June, as part of Bike Week 2010, Bike Friday are inviting people in Greater Manchester to join one of the Bike Friday cycle routes and ‘Cycle in Style’ to highlight how well style and function can be combined when cycling to work or for leisure. [1]

As well as highlighting the benefits of cycling for getting to work on time, saving money and feeling fitter, the “Cycle in Style” rides are also promoting the Bike Fabulous cycle fashion show in Manchester Arndale on Saturday 26th June.

With support from Manchester City Council and Manchester Arndale, Bike Fabulous will provide a showcase for a range of stylish and functional bicycles, clothing and accessories and will demonstrate to Manchester Arndale visitors how easy it is to cycle in style. [2] Throughout Saturday, events will include:

  • Fashion catwalk shows that will feature products designed for cycling in style and high street brands combined for versatile looks.

  • Bicycle Maintenance demonstrations

  • Cycle Treasure hunts in participating Manchester Arndale stores

  • “Pimp my Ridewear” sessions to redesign and redecorate hi-vis vests

  • Pedal powered PA system – sign up for a cycling session and help us power the event with green energy.

  • Makeover sessions – advice on how to tackle helmet hair and other cycling style issues.

  • Enter the prize draw competition for a Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative Revolution Track single speed bicycle worth £300.

  • Win a private party in Lush for up to 10 people including food & drink and many wonderful Lush treatments…. and much more.

Catherine Thomson from Love Your Bike said:

“Cycling is a great way to travel to work, to the shops or for leisure. The Bike Friday and Bike Fabulous events will also show how easy it is to combine cycling and style.“

The Bike Friday rides finish in Exchange Square, Corporation Street where there will be a free Dr Bike session available for participants. Free ankle-snap bands (reflective bands) will also be available for all new Bike Friday riders.

Bike Friday combines a range of cycle rides into the City Centre from various locations as well as working with companies and local authorities in Greater Manchester to promote cycling, improve cycle facilities and to encourage more people to continue cycling to school and to work and for leisure all year round.
