Climate Camp Report

16th June 2013

Ah Climate Camp, you are the romantic dream for activists. If only it was this simple.

If you don’t know about Climate Camp, the idea is: activists set up a functioning and sustainable community next to some business or organisation that is contributing to environmental destrcution. From this base, activists take direct action against the organisation, with the aim of shutting it down or disrupting it’s activities.

The camp itself is the reason I go – seeing such a sustainable community set up within a few short hours is amazing and beautiful. Everyone mucks in to keep the camp running, and people volunteer for jobs that need doing onsite. Nearly everything is reused, recycled or composted, the energy there is provided by solar and wind, and the local environment is looked after.
