Better Buses and Safer Streets for Longsight

The Longsight Transport Project was carried out by Manchester FoE and FoE EWNI from 2003 and later became independent from the group.

This report was produced in 2003 at the end of an indepth six-month consultation process. It documents that process and details the issues that were highlighted by it. The report was launched in October 2003 at Longsight Library. Gerald Kaufman MP (pictured here with Cllr Roger Jones, GMPTA chair) was special guest at the launch and was enthusiastic about what we had done:

The execution of this operation is of exceptionally high quality. I don’t see how it could be bettered. It’s a model of how a local consultation should be done. Gerald Kaufman MP.
The On The Move radio programme was started as part of the Longsight Transport Project was produced monthly between 2006 and 2010.
The report ‘Better Buses and Safer Streets for Longsight’ is available as a pdf (1.3mb).

A set of four briefings is available. They document the project and share lessons from our experience:

Briefing 1: Project Overview
Briefing 2: Consulting Longsight
Briefing 3: On The Move Community Radio
Briefing 4: Everyone Wins Workshop Report
