Manchester Feeding the 5,000 – Saturday 15th June

take action

On Saturday 15th June between 12noon and 4pm, 5000 members of the public will be served a free, hot, nutritious lunch in Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens. The meal will be made entirely from ingredients that would otherwise have been wasted, such as fresh but cosmetically imperfect (aka wonky) vegetables and fruits.

Feeding the 5000Feeding the 5,000 is an international campaign that seeks to highlight how easy it is to reduce the unimaginable levels of food waste in the UK and around the world, and how governments, businesses and individuals can help.

Manchester Friends of the Earth are teaming up with amazing organisations including EMERGE/FareShare North West, Cracking Good Food, FoodCycle, FoodLink Manchester, and the Feeding the 5000 team to bring the campaign to Manchester!

Over the course of an afternoon, volunteers will serve a free lunch to 5000 people and share information about simple solutions to food waste. The menu will include a delicious curry made from fresh, nutritious, and “wonky” produce that would otherwise have been wasted. The public will be invited to participate in cooking sessions as well as meeting a range of organisations tackling food waste in and around Manchester.

Volunteers needed!!
It’s no mean feat preparing, cooking and serving a meal for 5,000 people and we need your help. If you can spare an hour or more on Saturday we’d love to see you there! There are lots of different roles, the atmosphere will be great, you’d be supporting an incredible cause, and you get a free meal… what more could you want!

The advance volunteer registration booking process is now closed – but if you would like to help out then please read the information below and pop along to Piccadilly Gardens on Saturday. The busiest times will be between 11am and 5pm.
