UN climate talks: Urgent action needed to stamp out fossil fuels

news release

As the international community gathers in Poland today (Monday 11 November 2013) at the start of crucial UN climate talks, Friends of the Earth’s international climate campaigner Asad Rehman, who is at the summit, said:  “With the world teetering on a climatic precipice, the international community must agree urgent action to end our reliance on dirty fossil fuels.

“Nations such as Britain must pull the plug on new polluting energy schemes, and help people in the developing world to access locally-produced clean power.

“We have the tools to meet the climate change challenge – all that’s lacking is the political will.”

Friends of the Earth is calling for:

* Developed nations such as the UK to support moves to bring community-owned clean power to over a billion people in the developing world who are currently without access to energy.

* Stop taxpayer support for companies involved in fossil fuels.

* An end to all new dirty energy projects.

ENDS
