Govt infrastructure plans will hinder efforts to cut UK emissions

news release

Responding to the Government’s National Infrastructure Plan announced today (Wednesday 4 December 2013) Friends of the Earth Economics Campaigner David Powell said: “Building the right type of infrastructure is essential for creating the prosperous, low-carbon economy we so urgently need.

“But Government plans are peppered with highly-polluting, white elephants that will hinder efforts to drive down UK emissions.”

Commenting on Danny Alexander’s statement that the Government is to “explore options” for getting more private capital into the Green Investment Bank, Friends of the Earth said:

“Ministers may finally be getting the message that the Green Investment Bank is a shadow of what it needs to be – they must prioritise letting it borrow to invest in our low-carbon future.”
