Ask Salford Council to break silence on fracking

Over 3,000 local people in Salford have signed a petition opposing fracking and unconventional gas in the area. But despite strong public opinion, Salford City Council refuses to discuss the petition.

The people of Salford have spoken:

  • Over 3,000 people signed our anti-fracking petition on the Salford City Council’s website – thank you to everyone who added their name
  • 80% of residents surveyed on an estate local to the Barton Moss site are opposed to fracking
  • Over 50 people turned out to present the petition to Salford City Council on Tuesday 8th April

But Salford Council refused to discuss, or respond to, the petition.

We can’t give up now. As fracking company IGas are expected to apply to frack at Barton Moss later this year. Fracking poses serious risks to health and the local environment. So we need to keep the pressure on Salford City Council.

The Council isn’t listening to local people, but if we keep up the pressure, they won’t have a choice.

Please join the call to stop Ian Stewart ignoring over 3,000 concerned local residents.

With thanks,

Helen Rimmer,  North West Regional Campaigner
