Support the Proposed 30mph Speed Limit on Manchester Road, Cheadle

take action

Residents may recall that the Council has been granted funding from the Department of Transport (DfT) to provide cycle safety improvements on the highway within the Cheadle area.

A proposed ‘Cycle City Ambition Grant’ (CCAG) component of the scheme is to introduce a shared use pedestrian/cycle facility along Manchester Road from Mill Lane to the Manchester boundary where it will link into the Manchester City Council (MCC) cycle scheme along the River Mersey to Parrs Wood Metrolink station.

This scheme was consulted upon in February 2014 and approved by Cheadle Area Committee/Executive Councillor (Economic Development and Regeneration) in March 2014. During the consultation process and following discussions with MCC it emerged that there was a need to lower the existing 40mph speed limit to 30mph due to the new road layout and the numbers of cyclists using the route.
