Please encourage your MP to attend fracking event in House of Commons (Weds 4th June)
Barbara Keeley MP (Worsley & Eccles South) is hosting a parliamentary meeting – ‘Fracking and impacts on public health and environment – lessons from Australia’ on Wednesday 4th June.
The meeting will hear the powerful and first-hand experience of Dr Mariann Lloyd Smith (National Toxics Network), who is one of the world’s leading experts in the health and environmental impacts of unconventional gas and oil, of the impacts on communities and the environment.
We need to encourage as many MPs as possible to make the time to go to the meeting and learn about the environmental and social impacts of coal bed methane, shale gas and other unconventional fuels extraction.
If you have a couple of minutes please could you email/call your MP and ask them to attend? All MPs have been invited but it makes a huge difference if they can be nudged by a constituent! (see below for a possible email text).
You can find contact details for your MP on the Find my MP website. Please remember to include your name, address and phone number in your email.
You can find more information and briefings on fracking, shale gas and coal bed methane on Friends of the Earth’s Fracking campaign website.

Dear … MP,
I am writing to encourage you to attend a parliamentary event on fracking next Wednesday (4th June) from 4pm to 5pm in Committee Room 16 in the House of Commons.
The meeting is being hosted by Barbara Keeley MP, and will be addressed by Dr Mariann Lloyd Smith, one of the world’s leading experts on the health and environmental impacts of unconventional gas and oil. She will describe her first-hand experience of the impacts of coal bed methane and shale gas extraction on communities and the environment.
As your constituent, I have serious concerns about fracking and coal bed methane, and I would urge you to take this opportunity to hear direct evidence of the damage that unconventional gas extraction is already causing in Australia.
I do hope you will be able to attend this event. Please RSVP to Rachel.firstname.lastname@example.org
