Keep Devon’s beavers in the wild

take action

This morning Friends of the Earth launched a legal challenge to prevent the government via Natural England from capturing a family of beavers living happily on the River Otter in Devon. Beavers are a joyous celebration of how – if allowed – nature can thrive everywhere; they’re good for the river, can boost fish stocks and can even help to prevent flooding.

Beavers are wonderful creatures which have been found thriving in Devon. But they’re under threat. We don’t know exactly where they came from, but we’re glad they’re here.

Beavers were once found right across Britain and are commemorated in our place names – Beverly, Beversbrook, Bardale.

Beavers could bring many benefits to English rivers – they can boost fish stocks, improve biodiversity and even help prevent flooding.

Perhaps most of all they inject a little more joy into our landscape. But the Government wants to remove them and put them in captivity.

The Government want to remove them and put them into captivity but we believe that they are protected under the EU Habitats Directive. This is why we’re launching a legal challenge and we’ve created an action to rally support.

Please take the action and share and pass on as much as you can. Not only will this help keep the beavers living wild in Devon but it will also help us kick start a debate about seeing nature differently – as something that’s everywhere already and needs valuing and restoring.

Please write to the Minister for Beavers and ask him to help keep the Devon beavers wild

Thanks for helping us to celebrate nature everywhere,
