Barclays: Don’t frack my home

take action

This morning 13 year-old Ruby and her mother Nicky from Ryedale moved their living room to Barclays as part of the Stop Barclays Fracking Week of Action.

Ruby and Nicky moved into the York branch of Barclays to bring attention to the fact that Barclays is funding plans to frack in Ryedale. They also want to highlight the fact that communities around the world are already affected by Barclays’ funding of fossil-fuel extraction and climate change.

Barclays dont frack my home

Thousands more people across the country are taking creative action online and offline this week to spread the story of people like Ruby and Nicky.

To make sure Barclays hear their message loud and clear, Nicky and Ruby will be joining Frack Off London and Divest London at a central London branch of the bank on Saturday (29 October).

Ruby’s message to Barclays

“My name is Ruby, I’m 13 and from Ryedale. Ryedale is not polluted and is a very quiet and peaceful place to live. You can see the stars clearly on a night as there is no light pollution. There are lots of beautiful walks to go on in this area with so much amazing natural beauty everywhere. I love the views of the sunsets and sunrises from my window and would hate to see fracking instead. It would be really devastating to see the place that I love and live in damaged.

Ruby (13) from Ryedale

“After hearing reports of how fracking has affected the health of people all over the world I feel worried about how it could impact me and my friends. I worry about the future that we will be left to deal with. We only have this chance to try and save it, but once the drills have gone into the land, it may never be reversed to its natural state ever again.

“This morning me and my mum moved our living room to Barclays in York and I am going to London this Saturday to help raise awareness to the general public who may not know that Barclays bank is funding fracking plans in Ryedale where I live. I want to support Friends of the Earth and all the other amazing groups who work so hard to protect our land and keep it safe so that me and my friends can live here for a long time and have a healthy life with clean water and air.”

Stop Barclays fracking the climate. And my home.

“I don’t know lots about climate change but I do know that fracking will have a massive effect on the climate. There are so many other ways to produce energy that are sustainable and if we want to have a healthy and happy future we must make a stand and work together which is why I am taking action this week.

“Fracking is not the solution. For my generation, please reconsider what you are wasting your money on and give us a sustainable and healthy future.

“Please Barclays, don’t frack my home.

“If I could send a message to Barclays it would be to urge you to not invest your money in an unnecessary project that risks polluting our water and land. Instead you could use the money to fund sustainable energy such as wind farms, solar power and tidal energy.

The more people that can take action this week the more awareness will be raised. Fracking could affect everyone if we don’t join together and make a stand. We can only win if we work together.”
