Government must make domestic energy efficiency a national spending priority.
Reacting to new figures from the Office of National Statistics today indicating that there were more than 34,000 “excess deaths” across England and Wales last winter, Friends of the Earth campaigner Dave Timms said:
“Cold, damp, poorly insulated homes are a significant contributor to excess winter deaths and this staggering number is both shameful and unnecessary.
“The government should make domestic energy efficiency a national spending priority. They must ensure all new properties are zero carbon, incentivise home insulation and tighten the rules to make sure private landlords meet minimum standards on their properties.”
