A6 Buxton Road (High Lane) – On carriageway cycle lane (23rd Feb: deadline for comments)

See text below from Stockport Council regarding a consultation on the A6 Buxton Road (High Lane) – On carriageway cycle lane. The closing date for responses is Friday 23rd February 2018.

Stockport Council undertook a public consultation in 2016 regarding a package of measures that were developed to manage the impact of the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road (A6MARR) on local communities.

One proposed measure was the provision of a two way shared use footway/cycleway on the A6 Buxton Road between Wellington Road and the Middlewood Way. Feedback was received which highlighted that, as equestrians would not be permitted to use the shared footway/cycleway, they would be put at an increased risk of collisions should they travel within the carriageway adjacent to the shared footway/cycleway as the carriageway had been narrowed in this location. The measure was therefore not approved and alternative measures to provide cycle facilities on the A6 have since been investigated.

We have now developed a proposal which includes the provision of an on carriageway cycle lane between Wellington Road to the west and the Borough Boundary to the east. This is detailed in these plans, (PDF932Kb).

From Friday 19th January to Friday 23rd February 2018 Stockport Council is consulting with residents adjacent to the proposed cycle lanes and key stakeholders to seek feedback on the proposals.

To find out more about the proposals, discuss them with the Stockport Council team and provide your comments we invite you to attend our drop-in sessions at High Lane Village Hall, Windlehurst Road, High Lane, Stockport, SK6 8AB, 4-7pm on Tuesday 30th January 2018 and Tuesday 20th February 2018.

Alternatively, if you have any questions about the proposals or to provide your comments please contact the team via email at semmms.relief.road@stockport.gov.uk or phone on 0161 474 2299.

The closing date for responses is Friday 23rd February 2018.

Your feedback on the A6MARR traffic mitigation measures will continue to be valued and appreciated, and we welcome your continued involvement in the process.

Comments received will be considered prior to further development of the proposals and these comments, plus any revisions to the proposals, will be reported to Area Committee and approved by the Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities.  Details of the Council committees can be found on the Stockport Council website www.stockport.gov.uk or by calling 0161 474 2299.

Due to the volume of comments expected we will be unable to provide a detailed response to every individual query/request but will deal with them through the scheme development and reporting process. Please note that the reporting of the consultation will not identify any individuals. If you have a Highway issue to which you want a specific response then please contact your Ward Councillors.
