Plastic is everywhere – even in the clothes we wear.
Every time we wash these clothes tiny bits of plastic – called microfibres – escape into our waterways, and eventually our oceans.
These microfibres are so tiny that they can be mistaken for food by ocean wildlife and could potentially end up in our food chain.
As consumers we should be able to buy clothes knowing that we’re not adding more plastic to our oceans. Retailers need to take action to put a stop to plastic pollution from the clothes they sell us.
Sign the petition to tell retailers that we don’t want clothes that pollute our oceans.
Petition text below: To: Clothing retailers
We’re calling on you to urgently tackle plastic pollution created from your clothes by:
- Measuring plastic shedding from your clothes, and telling consumers which materials are the most polluting.
- Ensuring that all water drainage pipes used for washing or dying clothing in factories are fitted with microfibre filters.
- Committing to phasing out the most polluting materials.
