GM Clean Air Plan should include cars says parents group (Clean Air Levenshulme)

news release

26 February 2019 – for immediate release

Commenting on the GM Clean Air Plan proposals unveiled today (1), Jen O’Brien from Clean Air Levenshulme, a local parents and residents group in one of the most polluted suburbs in Greater Manchester (2) said:

“We’re pleased to finally see proposals to address our air pollution crisis in Greater Manchester but it’s disappointing that charging on the most polluting private cars has been ruled out.

“Dirty air disproportionately impacts the health of the poorest communities, children and the elderly – urgent action is needed to limit the dirtiest vehicles travelling in and to the city centre and that should include cars, ensuring healthier air for everyone sooner.”

Notes
1. Greater Manchester Clean Air plan.

2. The parents and residents group has carried out snapshot nitrogen dioxide monitoring in Levenshulme, and found illegal levels including near schools and nurseries, and pollution almost twice the legal level on Stockport Road.
