Green post-pandemic recovery will deliver more jobs – Friends of the Earth reaction

news release

Reacting to today’s study, which says that investing in green measures to boost economies post-pandemic will create more jobs and better financial returns, Friends of the Earth campaigner Tony Bosworth said:

“Coronavirus is rightly the focus of government attention, but the escalating climate crisis has not meekly gone away.

“Managing the economic impacts of this virus is all the more reason for governments to place clean energy at the heart of the recovery. The right investment in the recovery phase will create jobs and put us on a firmer course to a cleaner future as we finally prioritise renewable energy, leaving oil and coal in the ground for good.

“At the moment lower demand means that solar and wind energy sources are taking the lead. The concern is that there might be a race for industry to make up for lost time, causing an emissions rebound that could wipe out the renewable energy successes we are seeing now.”

“Post-pandemic investment can push a big, positive, reset button on our carbon-guzzling and unsustainable economy and build a clean, safe and fair world, let’s take the opportunity.”
