PM speech: Green and fair recovery essential – Friends of the Earth

news release

The Prime Minister must put the environment at the heart of his economic recovery plans, says Friends of the Earth ahead of a keynote speech by Mr Johnson tomorrow (Tuesday).

Friends of the Earth climate campaigner Muna Suleiman said:

“A green and fair recovery must be the centrepiece of Boris Johnson’s economic recovery plans, not just a decorative strand.

“Bold infrastructure ideas are certainly needed to boost the flagging economy, but climate-wrecking investments, such as roads, will only lock us further into the climate crisis.

“We must build back better with comprehensive energy efficiency programmes, safer walking and cycling, and world class public transport.

“It’s time to end our fossil fuel dependency and build a clean and fair future that delivers for us all in this critical recovery.”
