We want a healthy planet that provides a good life for everyone on it now and for the future. The Earth will go on supporting us if we look after it. It’s clear what we must do to protect our world – and provide for a growing population.

Read more about our goals

This month’s Nature events are:

  • Wednesday 25th May  2022– Climate, Biodiversity and a packet of crisps – Science talk – at Kro Bar Oxford Road – see here for more details – all welcome!

We have several ongoing campaigns including-

  • Herbicides – encouraging the local authorities and individuals to use less
  • Bee cause – Because it is always important to help our pollinating insects, our previous Bee Cause campaign is still a source of useful information on how to do this. You can also discover how and where to buy bee-friendly rapeseed oil and how to set up bee-friendly habitats.
  • Peat – raising awareness and supporting where possible the campaign to have peat extraction banned.
  • Places for Everyone – Examination in Public preparation

Currently we are meeting once a month, and hold outdoor activities throughout the year – including bird, bee and butterfly walks as well as wildflower meadow and tree planting sessions.

We would love you to join us.

The Bee Cause

As well as campaigning and raising awareness, at Manchester FOE we have been supporting bees by creating more bee-friendly habitats around Greater Manchester and promoting bee-friendly rapeseed oil. Our campaigns cover three main areas: encouraging local councils and the Government to take action as part of the Bee Cause campaign, helping people find out how to buy bee-friendly rapeseed oil, and giving people advice on how to set up bee-friendly habitats.

Trees play an incredible role in combating climate chaos by removing planet-wrecking emissions from the air around us. Despite their importance, just 13% of the UK’s total land area has tree cover (compared to an EU average of 35%). We believe one of the best solutions to protect our environment is to double UK forest by 2045, but government targets currently fall well short.
