Transport
A shift towards more sustainable modes of transport is good news for our health, communities and the environment, both locally and globally. It is a vital step in reducing the emissions causing climate change. Manchester Friends of the Earth campaigns for cycling, walking, alternative fuels and quality public transport to be at the heart of policies on how we get around. We also believe that it is important to reduce the need to travel by, for example, promoting the use and development of local shops and services.
The Sustainable transport group meets on the third Wednesday of the month at the Green Fish Resource centre. See our calendar for details of this month’s meeting. If you would like to get involved or have a query please email graeme[AT]manchesterfoe.org.uk

ACTIVITIES

CURRENT CAMPAIGNS

Air Quality
Greater Manchester’s air pollution problem presents health and environmental challenges to the conurbation.

Bike Friday
Whether you’re new to cycling, returning to your bike after a break, or cycle every day, join us on our monthly rides (except December). We ride at a moderate pace and have experienced ride leaders. It is entirely law-abiding – we do not try to slow down the traffic. All welcome (bring a bike).

Love Your Bike
The Love Your Bike campaign is based in Greater Manchester. We aim to promote cycling and to help make it an attractive, accessible and fun way to get around. Cycling is far more than a leisure activity: it is the low-carbon transport of the future. Co-ordinated by Manchester Friends of the Earth, we aim to work closely with other like-minded organisations.

Public Transport
We campaign for an affordable, reliable and sustainable public transport service for all. Investing in good public transport brings wide benefits for social inclusion, air quality and congestion.
