We want a healthy planet that provides a good life for everyone on it now and for the future. The Earth will go on supporting us if we look after it. It’s clear what we must do to protect our world – and provide for a growing population.

Manchester Friends of the Earth is involved in a range of biodiversity campaigns, which mainly concentrate on increasing tree cover across Greater Manchester in partnership with City of Trees and other campaigning groups. At Manchester FOE we have previously supported our bee population by creating more bee-friendly habitats around Greater Manchester and promoting bee-friendly rapeseed oil. Our current activity focuses on encouraging local councils, landowners and the general public to increase tree cover as part of Friends of the Earth’s Trees campaign. Because it is always important to help our pollinating insects, our previous Bee Cause campaign is still a source of useful information on how to do this. You can also discover how and where to buy bee-friendly rapeseed oil and how to set up bee-friendly habitats.

If you would like to get involved with the Manchester FOE nature campaign please contact Damian at damian@manchesterfoe.org.uk or Cat at cat@manchesterfoe.org.uk.

Trees play an incredible role in combating climate chaos by removing planet-wrecking emissions from the air around us. Despite their importance, just 13% of the UK’s total land area has tree cover (compared to an EU average of 35%). We believe one of the best solutions to protect our environment is to double UK forest by 2045, but government targets currently fall well short.

The Bee Cause

As well as campaigning and raising awareness, at Manchester FOE we have been supporting bees by creating more bee-friendly habitats around Greater Manchester and promoting bee-friendly rapeseed oil. Our campaigns cover three main areas: encouraging local councils and the Government to take action as part of the Bee Cause campaign, helping people find out how to buy bee-friendly rapeseed oil, and giving people advice on how to set up bee-friendly habitats.
