Cycling to Blackpool rocks!

news
release

On Sunday 10th July, thirteen intrepid Manchester Friends of the Earth supporters will cycle 55 miles from Manchester to Blackpool to raise funds to support the organisation’s environmental campaigning work. [1]

They will join thousands of other cyclists taking part in the annual Manchester to Blackpool cycle ride, organised by Bike Events. Starting from the Manchester United Football Ground at Old Trafford, the invigorating cycle ride travels along country lanes to the finish on the South Promenade in Blackpool. [2]

All the money raised will go towards helping the award-winning environmental group continue to campaign on a wide range of important issues including food, climate change and waste as well as helping to promote cycling as a fun, healthy and practical way to travel. [3]

Graeme Sherriff, Manchester Friends of the Earth, transport campaign co-ordinator said:

“Over 50% of journeys made in Greater Manchester are shorter than 5 miles.  Cycling is an attractive option for many people for these journeys, whether to work, education or shopping. We hope that our participation in the Manchester to Blackpool ride will inspire people to make cycling part of their lives and raise awareness of the need for quality, consistent cycle routes.”
