Dear Chancellor… Seven great transport ideas for the Budget! (Campaign for Better Transport)
8 March is Budget day: let’s send Chancellor Philip Hammond some positive ideas for improving transport!
Too often Budgets focus on colossal, expensive new roads and runways. In the message below you’ll see seven ways that the Budget could improve the local transport we use every day – and that doesn’t cost the earth.
- How about repairing potholes – and training apprentices at the same time?
- How about funds to reopen some of the rail lines and stations closed by Beeching in the ’60s?
- How about taxing people more when they buy new diesel cars (responsible for so much air pollution)? And rewarding people for scrapping old diesel cars with money to spend either on a cleaner car or on a rail season ticket, e-bike or car club membership instead?
If you like these ideas, please email the Chancellor (or edit the message to send your own suggestions).
