Climate Change
We need urgent action to minimise the damage caused by global emissions. The solutions exist but without the political will to drive them forward we are taking great risks with our future.
Divestment from Fossil Fuels
As well as the obvious arguments for supporting green energy, there are sound political, financial and national security reasons for divesting from the fossil fuel economy
Walking and Cycling
Active travel provides multiple benefits when compared to other forms of transport and would be the preferred choice of many people if routes and facilities were improved
Air Quality
I believe other initiatives to help parents get their children safely to school may be more effective but this would help congestion and pollution in the immediate vicinity of the school
Biodiversity
Ecological systems find a natural balance between pests, predators and plants. We should attempt to work with these natural mechanisms rather than relying on industrial/chemical methods which bring along their own set of undesirable consequences.
Plastics
We should rethink our dependence on all plastics where more environmentally sympathetic materials can be developed and substituted
Aviation
Fossil fuel journeys of all transport modes should be considered and reduced where possible, including, air travel and from all airports.
Energy Efficiency
All new buildings should be designed to require no active heating and this should be enforced through legislation (ideally national). There should also be greater incentives for all buildings to generate their own electricity and collect rain/gray water for internal use.
