Climate Change
Manchester has signed the Paris agreement and should work towards achieving the targets . this will be more achievable if the government plays its part to support us.
Divestment from Fossil Fuels
Undecided
i agree with this in principle but i am unsure about the timescale of the disinvestment. what are the alternative investments and do they carry more of a risk to the pension funds holders. Going forward more public awareness needs to be made and work need to be done on the thoughts and minds of the people and businesses on whom behalf pension funds manage funds
Walking and Cycling
Manchester Labour Manifesto is committed to making cycling safer and getting more people walking and cycling. i look forward to working with residents and other stake holders to identify walking and cycling routes in the city and the Crumpsall ward
Air Quality
Undecided
Our manifesto commitment is to prioritise ongoing reductions in our emission of greenhouse gases and to take action to make the air we breathe clean. A parking exclusion zone might work in one area and not in another . there should be an open debate with schools, parents and local residents in order to find the best solution for every school in the area as otherwise a blanket ban might shift the problem elsewhere.
Biodiversity
Undecided
i would like to understand better where these pesticides are used and the circumstances in which they are used to be able to consider any alternative options.
Plastics
In March 2018 Manchester Labour voted in a motion to phase out single use plastic
Aviation
Undecided
Manchester Airport is a big economical driver for Jobs and local businesses in the region and a major part of the bigger picture "Northern Powerhouse". It provides a dividend to all GM local authorities. However this said we need to consider how we can consider reduction in emissions such as retiring older aircraft and over fuel economy.
Energy Efficiency
Undecided
our manifesto is to build more homes than any comparable city around 10,000 this year with a third being available to families on lower income. i fully support the government to legislate to give council all necessary legal, financial powers to build council, social and affordable low carbon/ carbon neutral homes in Manchester.i will like for the government to give us the resources and powers to be able to do this.
