Area

Question 1
Climate Change
Do you agree that Greater Manchester should adopt the Tyndall Centre’s science-based carbon budgets, set targets to halve the region’s emissions in the next five years and become carbon neutral by 2038?

Yes

Question 2
Divestment from Fossil Fuels
Do you agree that the Greater Manchester Pension Fund should fully divest from fossil fuels in the next five years?

Yes

The movement away from fossil fuels has already taken too long and renewable energy can be created and deployed just as quickly as transporting fossil fuels can. It is a well-overdue movement and one I am fully behind.

Question 3
Walking and Cycling
Will you support your local council allocating funding to implement the walking and cycling (active travel) measures contained in Chris Boardman's ‘Made to Move’ report?

Yes

Question 4
Air Quality
Will you call on your local council to introduce ‘parking exclusion zones’ around local schools at peak times?

Yes

Not only do I back this for the cleaner air that this will eventually bring back around schools, but also to clear the roads from being full of vehicles which cause reduced visibility and lead to risks of accidents involving pedestrians.

Question 5
Biodiversity
Will you support a ban on the use of neonicotinoid pesticides in your local council area and work to phase out the use of other pollinator-harming pesticides?

Yes

In Stockport we are lucky when considering the protection needed for bees; very recently there have been proposals put forward to use existing spaces to house indoor sanctuaries for bees for their own preservation.

Question 6
Plastics
Will you support the phase-out of single-use plastics in your local authority by 2020?

Yes

Again, yet another overdue movement. Single-use plastics have no place in our environment; there are renewable & re-usable alternatives that perform the same purpose, so the sooner we switch to them the better.

Question 7
Aviation
Will you support the introduction of a cap on emissions from flights to and from Manchester Airport?

Yes

This isn’t just an aviation issue. While I do agree that flights should not be permitted to take off without a full allocation of seats in order to reduce the carbon emissions, we also need to greatly consider the traffic volumes coming through which contribute massively to the overall air pollution levels surrounding Manchester Airport.

Question 8
Energy Efficiency
Do you support the introduction of a GM-wide building standard for all new developments to be zero-carbon and climate resilient?

Yes
