Question 1
Climate Change
Do you agree that Greater Manchester should adopt the Tyndall Centre’s science-based carbon budgets, set targets to halve the region’s emissions in the next five years and become carbon neutral by 2038?

Yes

I attended the recent Green Summit and am reasonably familiar with the science related to carbon, global warming and with the objectives of the Paris Agreement

Question 2
Divestment from Fossil Fuels
Do you agree that the Greater Manchester Pension Fund should fully divest from fossil fuels in the next five years?

Yes

These funds should be directed to the development of renewable technologies and to investing in the infrastructure to make them the default energy supply

Question 3
Walking and Cycling
Will you support your local council allocating funding to implement the walking and cycling (active travel) measures contained in Chris Boardman's ‘Made to Move’ report?

Yes

We need to work towards walking and cycling being the preferred travel choice for all ages and abilities. The benefits are indisputable in terms of air pollution, general health, community cohesion etc

Question 4
Air Quality
Will you call on your local council to introduce ‘parking exclusion zones’ around local schools at peak times?

Yes

Such a policy must contain exemptions for individuals according to need. Schools and other educational establishments set life habits!

Question 5
Biodiversity
Will you support a ban on the use of neonicotinoid pesticides in your local council area and work to phase out the use of other pollinator-harming pesticides?

Yes

The evidence around the effects of mass pesticides administration is becoming clearer by the day. Pollinators are essential to the functionality of eco systems and food chains yet they are declining at an alarming rate! Of course local councils must lead on the elimination of pesticides

Question 6
Plastics
Will you support the phase-out of single-use plastics in your local authority by 2020?

Yes

This really should be an easy win as the general public are so on board. Any phasing out should be very short as alternatives already exist so there is no reason not to act on this immediately

Question 7
Aviation
Will you support the introduction of a cap on emissions from flights to and from Manchester Airport?

Yes

Question 8
Energy Efficiency
Do you support the introduction of a GM-wide building standard for all new developments to be zero-carbon and climate resilient?

Yes

There is no reason not to act on this immediately as the necessary technology and materials exist to do this right now. It should apply to all new building
