Beginners Winter Veg Course (hosted by Platt Fields Market Garden)
Beginners Winter Veg: How to grow your own food over winter (October – April)
This 4 week programme is for beginners that want to grow their own food after the main harvest season has finished and to get a head start in 2020.
It might seem a bit premature to think about winter crops now but it’s all about preparation. If you know what you’re doing in July it will make for a steady supply of food through the less abundant winter months.
The workshops are spread out over 4 weeks so that you can see progress in the garden as you complete the course and so that you can fit it around your schedule.
The 2-hour workshops will be on Wednesday evenings 6pm – 8pm starting on June 26th
The schedule is as follows:
Week 1 – 26th June 6pm – 8pm
Sowing seeds and planning ahead
Week 2 – 3rd July 6pm – 8pm
Potting on and other maintenance
Week 3 – 10th July 6pm – 8pm
Planting out, pests and weeds and tools
Week 4 – 17th July 6pm – 8pm

You will then get to take away the seedlings that you sow to grow at home too!
The aim of this programme is to give you hands-on experience and confidence so you can grow winter crops at home.
We will provide printed workbooks for you to take away with you and drinks and refreshments are included in the price.
We will be doing will be low/ medium activities but we will always accommodate to your abilities and will make sure you are comfortable and happy with the tasks. If you are unsure, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss arrangements.
We have priced this workshop so that every paid ticket sold, we can offer a free place to someone from the local community that would like to attend. These places will be ‘referrals’ from local community groups and health care professionals that we work with in the area.
We are a social enterprise, so all profits are put straight back in to the project to improve the site and so we can offer more free and inclusive sessions to the community.
