Bike Maintenance Course for Women (hosted by Hulme Community Garden Centre)
A 4 week course for women funded by the National Lottery.
Booking required – please book via messenger. A £20 deposit is required which is refundable as a £20 HCGC gift vouncher.
Want to learn the basics of looking after your bicycle? Would you like to know more about how to keep it running smoothly and safely? Over 4 sessions we’ll cover what’s what on your bike; how to set it up for maximum comfort; how to check it’s roadworthy; where, what and when to clean and lube. Each session lasts 2 and a half hours and you’ll be working on your own bike. These sessions are for complete beginners.
When: 4 Wednesdays starting Weds 25 September

Outline of sessions
Session 1: getting to know your bike
• naming the parts
• checking your bike is roadworthy
• setting up your bike to suit you
Session 2: looking after your drivetrain
• what is the drivetrain and why look after it?
• Checking chain wear
• Cleaning and lubing
Session 3: punctures and roadside repairs
• Minimising likelihood of punctures
• Removing wheels and fixing punctures
• Tools/kit to carry with you
Session 4: checking and adjusting brakes
• Different types of brakes
• Checking and tweaking brakes
• Replacing brake blocks
