2nd BREATHING SPACE CONFERENCE: BUILDING OUR GREATER MANCHESTER
Save Greater Manchester’s Green Belt (SGMGB) have organised a 2nd FREE Conference to discuss issues relating to the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework and to examine areas we know we need solutions for.
The conference will unite experts from across urban geography and spatial planning to suggest how we can respond to these challenges in ways that are truly sustainable. This year we wish to focus on the following areas prior to the release of the final consultation for the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework.
Talk 1 – Help! The town planning system has been captured by land speculators’. Focus – 5-year land supply and Housing Delivery Test and what that means for the protection of green spaces. Presenter: Dr Quintin Bradley – Leeds Beckett University (this is particularly of interest following the recent posts by groups in Oldham)
Talk 2 – The impact on poor air quality on the most vulnerable. Presenter: Sue Huyton from the British Lung Foundation
Talk 3- Climate change – rain, rain and more rain OR Impact of transport on climate change and what we can do – Speakers TBC
Talk 4 – Public Participation in Planning – Smoke, mirrors and charades. Presenter: Dr Paul O’Hare – Manchester Metropolitan University
Workshop – Vital and Viable Neighbourhoods – This session is particularly of interest to those groups/people that are looking at how their local authorities should look at re-developing their town centres and neighbourhoods. Presenter and facilitator Dr Steve Millington – Institute of Place Management at MMU
