Climate Justice // Workplace By Workplace // Town By Town (hosted by Greater Manchester Unite Social Action Branch)

The situation seems bleak. Vast wildfires continue to rage across Australia decimating landscapes, wildlife and neighbourhoods. Jakarta is seeing extreme flooding and a rising death toll. Here in the UK our hopes to tackle the climate crisis through government action and a Green New Deal were dashed by the Tory landslide.

With the Tories in power we have an uphill challenge to address global warming and the impending devastation which will hit poorer and more vulnerable communities first.

As Trade Unionists we can not wait until the government of our choice comes to power. We must organise in our workplaces and institutions now to demand change and climate justice.

Join Unite NW389 to discuss how we can organise and pressure employers to make vital changes. In this workshop we will discuss what we should be looking to change and how it can be done. Whether you’re a trade unionist, student, worker, or community activist you’re welcome to come join the conversation.

The workshop will be introduced by Graham Petersen, former Environmental Officer at UCU, now coordinating the Greener Jobs Alliance.

Both Ian Allinson, the President of Manchester Trades Council, and Annette Wright, Hulme Labour Party Councillor will offer their thoughts and share some of their experiences in making positive change.

All welcome.
