Diversity: Is sustainable transport inclusive of our city’s diverse communities? (hosted by by Sustainable Housing & Urban Studies Unit, University of Salford)
Around 14% of the population of England and Wales are from black, Asian, minority ethnic backgrounds, in Scotland this is 4%. The figure is higher for the under 16 population, and is increasing steadily. People from an ethnic minority background visit outdoor spaces less, and when they do it tends to be within 1–2 miles from home, taking part in more urban outdoor activity such as park visits and street sports.
Patrick Steele will be speaking about his work with the Chinese Arts Centre and introducing them to the cycling culture in Manchester.
Junaid Janvaria from Jacobs Engineering will present his work on the barriers and perceptions around cycling in the Indian Muslim community in Manchester.
