EcoHome Lab: Heat Pump performance monitoring and system design implications

eat Pumps are the future of domestic heating – but historically real world performance has been mixed. What lessons can we take from real time monitoring to inform design decisions and ensure best performance.

This month we are having a presentation and Q&A from Trystan Lea about his reflections on heat pump system design as a result of his work monitoring ASHP performance. His recent experience (documented at https://trystanlea.org.uk) shows his home system performance far exceeding SAP model predictions. So what sort of COP performance should we be expecting and what design decisions help to ensure such performance?

Trystan Lea is co-founder of the OpenEnergyMonitor Project, he has developed hardware and software for heat pump monitoring and has regularly spoken about heat pumps in the context of the decarbonisation of heat in the UK (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPxKFXHD9rg)

This is an online Zoom meeting so you will need the zoom URL to join. The URL contains the meeting ID and password. This will be automatically shared with you when you RSVP. It can also be found in the meetup.com location box after you have RSVPed.

In order to replicate the physical ecohomelab experience as much as possible the presentation will be followed by a virtual pub Q&A and discussion. Feel free to bring along whatever tipple you have been enjoying in splendid isolation.

Register your place via the Meetup event page.
