Fallowfield Loop – Wildlife Surveys (Lattice Bridge)

The Fallowfield Loop is one of Sustrans Greener Greenways.  It follows the route of a former railway line and is bounded by varied habitats which now support interesting and varied wildlife including flowers, trees, fungi, invertebrates and birds.

The 7 mile off road urban route takes you from Chorlton-cum-Hardy to Debdale, being part of a Sustrans biodiversity project that focuses on 66 traffic-free walking and cycling routes owned or managed by Sustrans across Wales, England and Scotland.

In order to improve levels of knowledge about nature along its routes to help inform their management, Sustrans seeks to identify what flora and fauna inhabit them through expert and volunteer surveys.

As part of this, monthly wildlife walks take place on the 4th Sunday of the month, each having a different starting point and a different focus. These can be lead either by volunteers or local experts.

As well as having important data gathering aims, the walks are a fun, informal way of learning about and enjoying local wildlife in friendly, like-minded company. Everyone is welcome, no previous experience of wildlife identification is needed.
